Essential Lesson For Every Muslim - Pillars of Eemaan - Belief in the Books of Allaah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Things are hectic over here, so blog posts are slow, Maashaa Allaah. Continuing with Essential Lessons for Every Muslim of Shaykh Bin Baaz Raheemahullaah,  We learnt about Eemaan in the Books of Allaah, which included the following:

  • Linguistic meaning of Kutub
  • Shariah Meaning of it
  • How to believe in the Books of Allaah
  • Proofs for believing in all the Books of Allaah
  • The previous Books of Allaah, their Names and those who received them

  • The Noble Qur'aan
  • What is the Definition of Qur'aan
  • Linguistic and Shariah Meaning of the Qur'aan
  • How should we believe in the Qur'aan

Maimoonah used toothpicks to decorate the borders. She painted them first and after they dried she made borders.

If you have young children you can try this worksheet on My DownLoads Page, we used when Maimoonah was small to know the basics of this belief.

Essential Lessons for Every Muslim - Pillars of Eemaan - Belief in the Angels

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Alhamdulillaah we are continuing with the Essential Lessons for every Muslim and we completed "Belief in the Angels' few weeks ago.

Often many sisters ask me, as for other subjects there are many wonderful resources available but how to make Islaamic studies an interesting subject to teach our kids as we are restricted and cannot find anything to make it appealing to the kids like the other subjects. Well, while it is true in some way, my experience is that Islaamic Studies is indeed not a subject rather it is our life. This is what we need to understand first and try our best to come up with acceptable creativity to make this interesting. Knowledge of the dheen is for acting upon it. And actualizing it. This should be the focus in teaching our kids our dheen. It is not like doing some worksheets and hands on activities, rather you need to make the knowledge live in their hearts and that would be the greater success Inshaa Allaah.

So what I found best that works for us is going back to the books of the scholars rather than focusing only on text books for Islaamic Studies (as some sisters say textbooks today are usually dry and boring). There are many wonderful facts and interesting information in them that makes a child live what he or she is taught. One such example you will see in this post Inshaa Allaah, just to encourage you all that Islaamic Studies need not be a boring subject. Children are inquisitive and love to learn every little information that is fascinating and Belief in the Angels is one such topic that makes kids happy if taught well Inshaa Allaah!

So we covered the following areas:
  • The Definition of Angels - Linguistic Meaning
  • The Definition of Angels - Shariah Meaning
  • Arabic Singular and Plural Terms for Angels

  • Belief of the Mushrik Arabs regarding Angels before Islaam
  • The Fruits of believing in the Angels

  • What it means to believe in the Angels
  • Proofs that it is obligatory to believe in the Angels

  • What comprises of the belief in the Angels

  • Their relation to Man

The above details were from the book Explanation of the Important Lessons for Every Muslim. Apart from this we read the wonderful easy to understand child friendly book "Angels are Real"( Darul Kitab Learn About Series) and got some information about the Angels and their duties and what they do and noted them on one page.

Maimoonah used toothpicks and paints to decorate these pages before we put in the information.

So we learnt some fascinating facts about Angels. While she filled in some of the information we spoke about incidents that took place to prove that Angels are Real. We spoke about Haroot and Maaroot, The Angles helping the Muslims in battles, The angel who writes when we are a fetus, the angels who make dua for us, the angels who take our good deeds to Allaah, angels who take our souls, angels who come down to punish the people who disobey Allaah and so on. Subhanallaah there are so many incidents to talk about from the Qur'aan and the sunnah.

At the end of the lesson, she understood that Allaah sends Angels to guard us and they are real and around us and felt secured about it. She also understood that Angels remind us to do our duties when we are lazy and support us always by the permission of Allaah. I felt this is indeed eemaan in the Angels as now the knowledge she has got has helped her understand that Angels are real and Allaah is merciful and she would be accountable. This is what I meant by "Islaamic Studies is not a subject, but our life". Alhamdulillaah, guidance is only from Allaah!

Additionally for younger kids you can use this worksheet I made two years ago from" My Downloads" page Inshaa Allaah!

Essential Lessons for Every Muslim - Pillars of Eemaan - Belief in Allaah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Continuing with the book Essential Lessons for Every Muslim by Shaikh Abdul Azeez bin Baaz Raheemahullaah we learnt the 6 Pillars of Eemaan.

We read this easy to understand interesting book on the hadeeth of Jibreel alaihissalaam explaining the meaning of Islaam, Eemaan and Ihsaan.

We used the TJ Pillars of Eemaan Poster and pasted on the scrapbook and learnt the 6 Pillars of Eemaan.

Also wrote them in Arabic and English

The First Pillar of Eemaan - Belief in Allaah

  • We discussed how we should believe in Allaah

  • What does belief in Allaah consists of

  • What is Faith in the Ghaib

  • What influences the Faith in the Ghaib

This turned out to be a very useful point as it made it easy for me to instil the importance of Khushoo in prayer primarily and other things such as fearing to sin or do bad deeds. It was a fruitful discussion.

Alhamdulillaah I am so glad that Allaah guided us to do this beautiful book this year and it consists really of the very important lessons a Muslim must know. And the scrapbook approach is helping me refresh my learning as well.

Next will be the 2nd Pillar of Eemaan Inshaa Allaah.

Essential Lessons for Every Muslim - Scrapbook

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

As per our schedules we started Shaykh Ibn Baaz's raheemahullaah Essential Lessons for Every Muslim. This is a very comprehensive book that includes Important things or rather the obligated matters of the dheen that every Muslim must know.

It has 18 Lessons. The First lesson deals with Soorah Faatihah and the Short Soorahs from Soorah zalzalaah till Soorah Naas. The rest of the lessons explains about The Shahadah, Tawheed, the five pillars, Pillars of Eemaan and many more essential things that every Muslim Must know.

The Resources we are using for this Scrapbook are as follows:

1. A Scrapbook - I got some thick papers and got them bounded.
2. TJ's Essential Lessons for Every Muslim Lesson Plans and Worksheets
3. Explanation of the Important Lessons for Every Muslim published by Darussalam
4. Stickers, Sticky Notes, Coloured pens and other stationery stuff for decoration
5. Salafyink Soorah Faatihah Worksheet (used this for the First Lesson, details are below)

We together did the cover page of the Scrapbook and this is how it looks.

We started with the First Lesson which is about the Soorahs. It starts with Soorah Faatihah and we have completed Soorah Faatihah. We will cover each soorah each week and get on with other lessons mainly to give variety for Maimoonah and this would make it interesting.

We learnt about Istiaathah and Basmalah then asked her to trace the Isthiaathah and the basmalah. Then we wrote some important facts about them.

I made her listen to Soorah Faatihah and made her recite to me and corrected her pronunciation as much as possible even though its still not perfect. But Alhamdulillaah she is good with it. Then we went through the Tafseer of it. We learnt the meaning for each aayah, the different names of the soorah, where it was revealed, the benefits of it and the connection it has with our daily salaah.

I wrote the Soorah Faatihah on the scrapbook and asked her to trace while reading it. Then I wrote the meaning of each aayaah in pieces of papers and asked her to choose the correct meaning for each aayah and paste underneath each aayah. Then I asked her to identify the aayahs that tell us the three categories of Tawheed. I wrote the three categories on three sticky notes and asked her to paste at the correct aayaat where we can find the three different categories of Tawheed. Alhamdulillaah she did well and this further testifies the benefits of teaching Tawheed to Children from a very small age.

Then I told her to use whatever she likes and display on one side of the scrapbook the different names given to Soorah Faatihah and to write anything she wants where she can give more information about this soorah.

So this was totally independant work and she came out with the above page. I included the benefits of Soorah Faatihah to make it complete.

I feel this is a very beneficial way of learning our dheen as it includes many areas of learning and very much more interesting than worksheets. If you want to try this with your kids and you are not sure how to get about it mainly if you feel that you yourself need to learn before you start off with your kids, do not worry, you still can do it. Learn with your kids by sticking to what is in the text of the book. This book is written in such a way that everything that you need to know is in there and just read through the chapter before you want to do it with your kids and get together and just use your creativity and start doing Inshaa Allaah. If you have multiple kids same age range it would be even more interesting and would be a great family time too while you can make sure each member of the family learns those important lessons without too much fuss Inshaa Allaah. I hope this would benefit you all as much as it is benefitting us.

Will be updating as we finish each lessons to make it easy for others as well Inshaa Allaah.
